About us

Hallormsstaður National Forest is considered to be Iceland‘s largest forest. The forest covers an area of 740 hectares most of which is native birch. Since 1905, the forest has been the site of large scale trials of exotic species.

The forest is a popular outdoor area in a diverse landscape. There are 11 marked trails. A hiking map is in a box at the start of all the hiking trails, as well at Hotel Hallormsstadur. You can also download it here.

Hallormsstadur host arboretum a tree collection with over 80 tree species. Around summer solstice (21st June) the National Forest Day is celebrated here with food and fun for the family and the Lumberjack National Championship.

Camping

HALLORMSSTADUR NATIONAL FOREST CAMPING GROUND
Two toilets housed are in Atlavík camping with hot and cold water, facilities for dishwashing, waste disposal for mobile homes, toilet for the disabled, outdoor barbeque, tables, and chairs as well as a playground.

There are three toilet houses in Höfdavík camping with hot and cold water and showers. There are electrical outlets for mobile homes and folding campers, waste disposal, toilet for the disabled, outdoor barbeque, tables, and chairs as well as a playground.

In both campsites, the garbage is sorted.

The forest is a popular area for outdoor living with a diverse landscape. There are about 30km of marked walking paths you can find on a hiking map. There is a family friendly tree collection/arboretum with over 90 different types of trees and bushes. There is also Hotel Hallormsstaður, a new hotel with 100 rooms and a restaurant.

Price 2024:

Adults: 2.000 kr pr. night
Senior citizens and the disabled: 1.500 kr
Accommodation tax per camp unit: 300 kr
Children: Free for 14 years and younger
Electricity per 24h: 1.300 kr
Shower (only in Höfðavík): 500 kr. The automat only accepts 100 kr coins.
Washing machine and tumble dryer (only in Atlavik): 500 kr. The automat only accepts 100 kr coins.
Discount card after 4 nights that gives 500 kr in discount for each night, valid till end of summer.
